“A Woman in Berlin” (Unrated, 131 minutes). In the final weeks of World War Two, the conquering Russian Army occupies Berlin and rapes and pillages the civilian survivors. The film, based on a diary written at the time, centers on the story of a woman who tries to exercise some control over her fate by making a liaison with a high-ranking Russian officer. He turns out be a decent but not a saintly man, and they make the best of a rotten situation. Good, restrained performances by Nina Hoss and Roman Gribkov. Three stars.
